I recently attended a TEDx event in Asheville, North Carolina. Not only was it free, it was streamed to one of the local watering holes so that people who couldn’t get inside had another place to watch the presentations. I’m really disappointed in the event organizers not only charging for this event, but charging over the top for it!
Cheryl – thanks for your comments. Every TEDx event has been planned independently and TED specifically didn’t impose a uniform program for us all to follow. We obviously chosen a slightly different funding model than Ashville, which doesn’t make ours better or worse than theirs. I applaud Ashville for getting all of their technical needs covered with in-kind sources, something we hope to accomplish if we are to repeat TEDxColumbus. All of our talks will be online, as well, hopefully within a few weeks of the event. While we know that isn’t the same as watching it live, we are looking forward to having our speakers ideas spread even further for the months and maybe years to come.
