2015 TEDxColumbusWomen: The Power In Our Story

Melissa Crum

Dr. Melissa Crum is an education consultant, diversity practitioner, and cultural strategist. She is the director and principal consultant  of Mosaic Education Network (http://www.mosaiceducationnetwork.com/) -- a consulting company that infuses the arts, diversity, and critical thinking into professional development, community building and traditional education so that participants have alternative ways to conceptualize themselves, their future and a diverse world. She has conducted professional development trainings, given presentations and facilitated projects across the United States and internationally including Ghana and Brazil.

She continues to shape her own professional development through a variety of opportunities. She worked with the The Ohio State University and The Royal Shakespeare Company in the United Kingdom to learn how to increase students' reading comprehension through theater-based practices. As an Imagining America Fellow she worked with artists, scholars, and community organizers across the country to expand the role of art and public scholarship in higher education. With the support of the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, she worked with talented Linden McKinley STEM Academy 8th graders, a social studies teacher, and numerous community members on a researcher-centered documentary on environmentalism.

Whatever matter the project, Dr. Crum uses creativity to facilitate self-reflection and critical thinking for participants in order to establish inclusive learning and working environments.
