2011 TEDxColumbus: A Moment in Time
Mark Berman, founder of BUGMAN Educational Entoprises (BEE), has been a natural history and biology educator for over 20 years.
His life-long passion for sharing the amazing natural world started during playtime in fields around his east Columbus (OH) childhood home. It was further developed in college at the University of Hawaii and Clark University in central Massachusetts, and while working as Curator of Entomology at the New England Science Center (currently, the Ecotarium) and as Teacher-Naturalist with the Massachusetts Audubon Society. In addition, Mark acquired a Teaching Certification (Biology/General Science, 7-12) in a post-degree graduate program at The Ohio State University.
In 1996, while attending grad school in Massachusetts, Mark launched BEE, an educational enrichment company focused on valuable learning experiences in schools and other venues where interested people gather. In his capacities as “Bugman,” Mark has developed an extensive stock nature video library (with lots of bugs!), produced new enrichment curriculums and materials and has preached his message of respectful interactions to thousands of groups of all ages. His lessons taught with live insects, spiders and other arthropods have left audiences with memorable educational experiences that make them want to look again.
